Directions - Chapter 20

“My class is full to the brim,” Tyre added as they walked to their condo.

“Yes, because students like some young blood,” she laughed. “I remember having those professors who looked and sounded like they should have retired at least 20 years before I met them.”

He laughed and said, “I will get the mail.”

“Ok,” she said as she went on in and left the door ajar for him. When he came in, he breathed hard and said, “Phoenix. You will not believe this. I have mail from all of the five universities where I applied.”

“Oh?” she asked. “I will be I my study,” he said.

“Okay,” she answered. She knew the routine and simply waited for the other shoe to drop. And then it happened. He bellowed, “Honey! I got a full ride. Acceptance, full tuition paid, a professorship and preferred faculty housing. It looks like it pays to be a man of color after all!”

“Where?” she asked as she made her way towards his study. He met her in the hallway with the letter in hand and when she saw the university letterhead, her mouth fell open. They hugged as she giggled, “OMG! Oh, my God!
