Oh! - Chapter 24

“Oh, no,” cried Phoenix. “Not again. I lose Phinny again!” She was uncontrollable and the doctor nodded to her assistant to give her something to calm her down.

Tyre looked at the doctor and quickly explained that her twin brother’s name was Phinny who she’d lost to death. That was the same name she had planned to give to this little boy and he looked over at the lifeless child that they had laid on a tray. He shivered.
“Oh, I see,” said the doctor.

In a short while, Tyre walked over to his little girl who they had cleaned off. She was wrapped in pink and they handed her to him. He looked down at her and said, “Hello Rachel. We have been waiting for you.”

When Phoenix was awake and approachable, he said, “Honey. Someone is waiting to meet you.” “Oh?” she asked, not quite with it.

“Yes, your daughter Rachel. She waited patiently for you to get over your grief so you can welcome her into our family.” He then placed Rachel into her arms and Phoenix cried and could not stop. It was like a harpoon sting filled with so many mixed emotions.

They soon allowed the grandparents to come in to kiss Phinny goodbye and love, love, love Rachel. As Jacqueline Woodson said, “We’re going to love that baby up.”
