Trey's Faith - Chapter 2

“Okay, man,” he said to Hank, his coworker. "I’ll be down.” When he picked the phone back up, he heard, “Whose Mamie?” Flora’s voice rose.

“Yeah, right. Is that why you did not want me to come? Is it your old girlfriend you never got over in the south? I should have known!” she screamed. Then she started to cry and whimper like a hurt child. As the accusations burst forth like water from a broken dam, she cried and cried.

Trey’s soul cried and cried. When he could find his voice, he hoarsely said, “Flora, I’ll call you tonight at nine after the last speech. Okay?” No answer. “Okay?” he continued. “Now calm down. Calm down.”

“Okay,” she cooed, knowing that she now had his attention, regardless of the means. As he hung up the phone, he felt the steam lift from his head. Lord, give me strength and faith that this will work out somehow. I am sorry. So sorry I touched her. Sorry I was weak for her and so sorry I accepted the gifts. Sorry I accepted the gold chain for Christmas. Sorry I spoke to her. Sorry, sorry, sorry! Sorry I ate her food. Oh, Lord, help me, he anguished.
