New Job-Chapter 17
Phoenix read the big book version of Rosie’s Walk by Rosemary Wells to the kindergarteners. They laughed when the fox got his comeuppance and a few of them asked questions. Continuously checking the clock, she moved the students to tables, and they colored pictures of Rosie the hen or the mischievous fox.
When it was time to clean up, she rang a chime and began to softly sing, “Clean-up, clean-up; everybody clean-up.” The children moved and began to put their crayons away. They were reminded to take their pictures with them and to push in their chairs.
Eileen had been observing and when Phoenix saw her smile, she knew that she approved of what she had seen. Phoenix returned the smile as she helped the kindergarteners quietly get in a line at the library door. She again told them that it was a quiet zone as she received several hugs from the little ones.
Their classroom teacher and the school principal stood in the library doorway also smiling. The teacher said, “I love it already,” as the principal nodded in agreement. Phoenix graciously said, “Thank you.”
