Tyre admired Phoenix’s ability to be frugal in her spending. He had observed this about her during their dating season, and he saw it as a huge asset. She was not frivolous, but she did like quality pieces whether it was in clothes, jewelry or in home furnishings. She was not reckless in her spending. She thought before she swiped. She had learned how to stretch a dollar and roll a penny, so to speak as she juggled her budget during her single years. She had learned how to tie the loose ends because she had no one to fall back on but herself. If she did not expand the elasticity of her bank account to the other end, she would be in dire straits. She always asked herself, “Was there a way to erase the debt? Was there a regular income? Was there a plan for paying off her debt? She liked to keep her credit cards down to zero and that worked well for him. They were on the same page, there. And she could count the times that she had borrowed money from her mother, Septima. That had been a long time ago and before Septima had become a widow who now lived on a fixed income. So, now the fruits of her efforts had produced a rich harvest with a smitten, admiring husband in tow.
