Septima resumed her knitting as her deft fingers moved similar to those of Madame Defarge’s in The Tale of Two Cities. As she aged and seasoned, she better understood why women often kept their sewing kits with them in earlier days.
It was a calming outlet when those insurmountable problems arose. It kept their hands busy as they worked through the tunnels of confusion. T hey had learned to say less and listen more deeply.
After what seemed like an eternity, Phoenix spoke. “Ma, I will give Leah more time. At some point, we will send for her when she is a little older.”
“You will never regret it. Children don’t ask to come. You have so much to give to her, Phoenix. You’ve got brains, brawn and wit,” her mother paused.
“Gee, thanks, Ma. That is a huge compliment coming from you,” Phoenix smiled.
“You never have to be jealous of this child, Phoenix. You are Tyre’s confidant and friend. No child can take your place. Actually, no one can. Be strong in knowing your position. He is so lost without you,”
