Tyre's Girls -Excerpt

 Pub Action - Chapter 3

There sat her mess-of-a-boyfriend with a blond girl. He had one of her curls rolled around his fingers as he leaned close as if seriously wooing her. The girl was giggling and enjoying the attention from him. Rachel’s first reaction was to go into frozen mode. It was not a chosen response, but a knee-jerk response to what she had in view.

She and Bren did not exchange words. They ate silently because neither knew what to say at that moment. Somehow, Jeff must have felt the chill in the room because he looked over at their booth and he had the nerve to stop his escapade and came over to their booth.

“Hey Rachel,” he tried to play it off. Rachel looked straight ahead as if no one was there. She was truly frozen.

“Rachel?” he repeated himself.

“Do I know you?” her words tripped out. “I don’t believe we’ve met,” as said as she stared at him like a total stranger.

Bren put her head down and said, “Dang, girl.” She tried to hold in her laughter.

“Rachel?” he tried once more.

She repeated, “I do not believe we’ve met.

Bren, should we call security?” Bren responded, “Yeah, if this person is making you feel uncomfortable. I can go up and tell them at the front if you want.”

“I would like that,” answered Rachel.

“That won’t be necessary,” said Jeff as he walked away.
